Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, attempts to take control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the Bat-Signal in the final shot of the season finale, Robert Pattinson has never appeared in the Penguin series. This IMDb short film attempts to answer the question: where the hell was Batman? Colin Farrell fought tooth and nail to get his version of the Penguin to smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but to no avail. In his own series, however, the character is depicted as an occasional tobacco user, preferring cigars. The DC Studios logo is located in a rainy Gotham alley. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. As seen in The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman , and I think those who haven’t seen the second one will be a little lost. But I watched Batman a while ago, and the show did a great job of quickly picking up where the movie left off without getting too didactic. It also captures the film’s aesthetic and dark tone well, though there are far more moments of playful levity in the show than in the movie. As in Batman , Colin Farrell has perfectly portrayed the Penguin as a stereotypical “street kid” gangster: rough, profane, explosive, and prone to violence; but also intelligent, cunning, and a good reader of people. The character may have absolutely nothing in common with his comic book counterpart, but he’s interesting in his own right. I have my doubts about whether the show will give the Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if the Penguin’s antics will last a whole season. But so far, so good.
